About Benissa

The town of Benissa is amongst the oldest towns in the Costa Blanca, Benissa town is located around 275m above the sea level and is packed full with pleasant surprises. With a quiet, plesent stroll through Benissa’s ancient, incredibly well preserved historical town centre you will discover an incredibly rich array of historical monumental buildings as well as cultural references which form a large part of Benissa town history.

The toponym of Benissa comes from the Arabic (Banu-Issa). After the Christian reconquest (1238) the town was settled by people from the Pyrenees, Catalonia and Aragon along with the former inhabitants. The Moors were expelled in 1609. The medieval town centre has been largely preserved with its town square (plaza), narrow streets, churches. Ironwork balconies and heraldic shields decorate the historic buildings. The Palacio de los Torres-Orduña is open to the public as a cultural centre and library. Benissa also has a strong Catholic tradition with a Franciscan seminary that has educated many Franciscans followers throughout Spain and a large NeoGothic church, the "Cathedral de la Marina". Prepare yourself to be dazzled by the beauty of nature as Benissa combines both mountains as well as sea together. The municipality of Benissa has 4 km of coastline linking the towns of Moraira and Calpe. The scenery of the area includes cliff tops, rocky coves, sandy beaches and tiny bays along the Benissa Costa. Benissa also contains beautiful countryside, terraced vineyards, mountains and palm trees. Spanish village houses, with doorsteps directly onto the street, internal courtyards and deceptively spacious inside. Old fincas (a farm or country estate) sit on large plots amongst vineyards with panoramic views to the sea. Cale La Fustera, Cale Advocat, Les Bassetes, Pinets, Cale Baladrar and Cale La Llobella, Baladrar, Cap Blanc are all beautiful beaches along the length of Benissa’s coast, these are all beautiful beachs in the Costa Blanca and all of which benifit from the beautiful crystal clear Medeteranean sea.

Benissa has both natural resources and beautiful scenery which has been left natural. Benissa has great access to the rest of Spain and the Costa Blanca, Benissa has an easy access to the Motorway A7 as well as the national Valencia to Alicante N 332 road, both Alicante and Valencia airports are oround an hour drive away. There is also travel by railway availible in Benissa, with regular trains from Alicante to Denia. There are also regular buses which travel though Benissa and the surrounding areas.
In Benissa there are only a couple of buildings higher than five storeys, Benissa has an incredible natural beauty with plenty of palm trees around and a stunning natural landscape. Benissa has an incredible sense of space, Benissa also has a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere.
